What is an IP address?
An Internet Protocol address is the number that identifies your connection on the internet. Every website you visit sees it, so it knows where to send the page back.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.7 and are running out. IPv6 addresses like 2001:db8::1 are longer and practically unlimited. Many networks give you both.

Why does my IP change?
Most ISPs assign dynamic IPs that change when your router reconnects. Mobile data often shares one IP across many users (CGNAT). A static IP must usually be requested from your ISP.
Is the location accurate?
It's usually correct to the country and often the city, but it points to your ISP's network, not your home. VPNs and proxies show the location of their server instead.
